This style opens up uniquely layered bark patterns that are revealed in each piece. The whimsical nature provides a departure from traditional forms presenting a lighthearted appearance reminiscent of old world mystical themes. Each carving is unique in that no two pieces of bark are alike and no two can be carved identically. Therefore, each signed and numbered carving is a one of a kind original.Having most of my art history focused in oil painting (2 dimensional art), I did shy away from sculpting or carving because of its 3 dimensional nature. But after once being exposed to whimsical carving I just had to try it. It was so much fun and the out come was so rewarding that I was hooked.
